Mike Frosolono describes himself as a professing Judeo-Christian who struggles to profess, proclaim, witness to, rejoice in, and serve God as Parent, Son, and Holy Spirit. The columns Mike wrote for The Franklin Country Citizen, a weekly newspaper published in rural Northeast Georgia, reflect that struggle in the environment of a community in which most of the citizens adhere to fundamentalist religious and conservative political values. Thoroughly Biased Opinions presents an edited collection of these columns written during a time, 1991-2007, when this community began the difficult transition from a predominantly rural setting with known characteristics and comfortable relationships to the anxiety-provoking changes accompanying the transition from the 20th Century to the 21st Century. Many of the columns pertain to our present time because the persistence of the questions we ask and the transitory nature of the answers we receive characterize the human endeavor: We still deal with the role of the church in our politics and society, the attempt to establish the US as a Christian nation through legal coercion, our taxation system, abortion, the presumptive conflict between science and religion as expressed through the controversy over creation science and Evolutionary Science, and the continuing distortion of Confederate history. The players may change, but the topics continue to bedevil us.
